4 Pro Tips for Taking Breathtaking Photos in 2023

Share

One of our readers asked, “Why aren’t my photos stunning and awesome? They all seem boring and dull. How can I take photos that are impressive and breathtaking?

We need to know that not all images have the ability to take people’s breath away, and not all images necessarily need to be breathtaking. Therefore, it’s important to focus on expressing our feelings and telling a story through our images, rather than solely seeking to leave people in awe.

Using Wide-Angle Lens

Firstly, from the perspective of photography skills, we would like to share some of our thoughts on how to take stunning photos. We can use wide-angle lenses to capture images instead of telephoto lenses or medium telephoto Lenses.

A Wide-angle lens: A wide-angle lens, also known as a wide lens, is a type of camera lens with a shorter focal length than a standard lens. It has a wider field of view and can capture more of the scene in a single frame, making it useful for landscape, architectural, and interior photography. Wide-angle lenses typically have a focal length of 35mm or less, although this can vary depending on the camera and lens manufacturer.

A telephoto lens: A telephoto lens is a type of camera lens with a longer focal length than a standard lens. It magnifies the image and allows the photographer to capture distant subjects with greater detail and clarity. Telephoto lenses are often used in wildlife, sports, and portrait photography, where the subject is at a distance from the camera.

A Medium telephoto lens is a type of camera lens with a focal length ranging from approximately 85mm to 135mm. They are often used in portrait photography because they compress the perspective and help to blur the background, creating a shallow depth of field that can help to isolate the subject.

When you are planning to take Carnival or other festivals, it is a good choice to capture photos via a wide-angle lens. Many people prefer to choose a 24mm or 21mm wide-angle camera lens. Wide-angle lenses have a wider field of view than standard lenses, which can make subjects or people appear smaller in photos. It may seem easy for photographers to get closer to their subjects for taking pictures when using a wide camera lens.

Therefore, if you want to capture some truly stunning photos, I recommend grabbing your wide-angle or ultra-wide-angle lens and getting up close and personal with your subject. This can create a powerful and dynamic effect that adds depth and interest to your images.

Using a camera flash

It has two advantages when using a camera flash. One is that it can provide a high level of contrast in black-and-white photography. The flash can create deep shadows and bright highlights, resulting in a striking and dramatic image. The whites become even whiter, the blacks become even darker, and the overall image becomes more visually impactful. The other is it can provide clear and detailed images with textures. The flash can illuminate the subject and bring out the details and texture, making the image more vivid and lifelike.

When using a camera flash to capture colourful images, the flash can add an extra layer of light and vibrancy to the colours in the image. This can help to enhance and bring out the colours, making them appear more vivid and eye-catching.

Using a flash can help to accurately capture the colours in a scene, ensuring that the reds appear as red and the greens as green. Why?

The camera flash emits a bright, white light that helps to illuminate the subject when taking a photo. When using a flash, the camera is generally set to a low sensitivity to capture the image. This is because a low-sensitivity setting allows more light to enter the camera, resulting in brighter and more vivid colours in the final image.

In contrast, a high-sensitivity setting can lead to colour loss and reduced image quality. This is because the camera’s sensor becomes more sensitive to light, which can result in increased noise and reduced colour accuracy.

The other advantage of this camera flash is that it emits white light. When the white light from the camera flash illuminates the subject, it can help to improve colour accuracy in the final image.

So far, we have shared two techniques for capturing stunning photos.

  • Using a wide-angle lens and closer to the subject;
  • Using camera flash

Now, let’s discuss the challenges of capturing excellent photos beyond the above-mentioned techniques.

The purpose or theme of images

Before embarking on a photography project, it is important to answer several questions to ensure that your images turn out as intended. These questions include:

  • What is the purpose of this photography project?
  • What is the theme of your pictures?

if you are planning to take festival photos with the goal of expressing your thoughts and feelings about the world, it is important to consider all the elements that can help convey your message. This could include capturing images of people’s clothing, expressions, violence, religion and activities that are unique to the festival or culture. You may add some unusual or unexpected scenes or details to your images. This makes all viewers surprised.

Note: Right moment and snapshot are very crucial when taking festival photography. Often, festivals are full of fast-paced action and fleeting moments, so being able to capture the right moment can make the difference between a good photo and a great one.

Aesthetics

In general, we often classified aesthetics into two categories:

  • 1. Beauty,  in the narrow sense, is considered that composition, lighting, and colour are essential elements that must be coordinated perfectly
  • 2. Beauty in photography involves many different elements such as violence

When it comes to captivating photos or stunning photos, photographers may choose to capture images of violent or intense situations, it is important to approach these situations with sensitivity and respect and to consider the potential impact of the images we capture.

Conclusion

we shared four ways to help you to take breathtaking photos:

  • Using a wide-angle camera lens and getting closer to the subject
  • Using a camera flash
  • Knowing the purpose and theme of your image project
  • Learning and applying aesthetics

The last two are particularly important.

If you have any tips on taking stunning photos, please feel free to leave them in the comments below.
