The RF 10-20mm f/4 lens provides a 130-degree field of view at 10mm, four degrees wider than the EF 11-24mm lens at 11mm.
Additionally, the latest ultra-wide-angle lens-RF 10-20mm f/4 L IS STM lens comes with 16 elements across 12 groups, which is very similar to RF 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM. Its Canon’s SWC and ASC coatings and two anti-reflection coatings ensure ghosting reduction and excellent images. The 10-20mm is equipped with one super ED and three EDs, offering high-quality images across the whole frame.
Regarding its dimension and weight, this Canon lens is measured as 3.3 x 4.4″ / 83.7 x 112 mm and weighs 1.3 lb / 570 g, which is lightweight and short compared with Canon’s 11-24mm.
Canon’s 10-20mm uses STM focus drive motor technology for getting autofocus. The lens has a close focusing distance of 9.8 inches (0.25 meters), allowing a maximum magnification of 0.2x at 20mm. While it falls slightly behind the EF 11-24mm lens (0.16x) and the RF 14-35mm f/4 (0.38x), it still offers impressive magnification capabilities.
Like other L-series lenses, its dust and moisture-resistant construction can ensure durability, reliability, and versatility and allow capturing captivating images in many conditions. Its fluorine coating on its front and rear elements can make this Canon’s 10-20mm easy to use and clean. Its focus position sensor allows the lens to remember and return to a previously set focus distance when powered on. This feature is well-suited for sports photography or any situation requiring quick and accurate focus adjustments.
This lens’s optical image stabilization system offers photographers around five stops of image stabilization. However, the EF 11-24mm f/4 does not have built-in image stabilization technology. The IS (Image Stabilization) technology in the lens works with a Canon EOS R-series camera with in-body image stabilization. It includes unique IS technology that helps reduce any potential wide-angle “fluttering” or distortion at the frame’s outer edges, ensuring sharper and more stable images. According to Canon officials, this IS technology effectively compensates for blur and distortion commonly found at the edges of the frame.
The Canon RF 10-20mm f/4 L IS STM lens will be available in November for $2,299.
