It is exciting news that the renowned photographer Vivian Maier will have her first major art exhibition in New York City in May 2024. This exhibition provides a wonderful opportunity for photographers and admirers of her work to view her exceptional images.

This article included Vivian Maier as one of the world’s best street photographers. It is worth noting that Vivian Maier’s work gained widespread recognition only after her passing. Thanks to the efforts and discovery of John Maloof, this relatively unknown photographer’s exceptional photo compositions capturing the lives of ordinary people gained worldwide fame. If you’d like to learn more about Vivian Maier, I recommend checking out the documentary.

“The discovery of Vivian Maier’s archive and her extraordinary work is one of those rare stories that captures the public’s imagination,” says Sophie Wright, the director of Fotografiska New York. “We are thrilled to be premiering this beautiful exhibition in her hometown of New York—it’s a testament to her distinct perspective and talent, and an honour for the museum.”

This significant exhibition features many outstanding images from the Maloof collection, covering the 1950s to the mid-1980s period. It encompasses various mediums, including Super 8 films, soundtracks, vintage and modern prints, and personal objects that once belonged to Vivian Maier.

During her lifetime, Vivian Maier kept her passion for photography and her body of work primarily hidden from the public eye. The controversy arises from whether exhibiting her works and making her well-known posthumously is better.

The exhibition will run at Fotografiska, New York, from May 31 to September 2024.
